Textiles

Textiles have a long history in America being one of the most outstanding productions of pre-Columbian cultures. Among these, textiles were magical invocations, records of customs, stories and myths.

Among the Andean groups, stepped pyramid designs were common, with their inverted variant sometimes glued at the base, half pyramids and trophy heads and zoomorphic or phytomorphic elements were also frequent.

In different periods and cultures, the techniques and materials varied, but the use as a vehicle for symbolic content remained stable.
