Considered amulets, these objects were linked to a world of ideas and beliefs associated with the life cycle, in this case birth and infancy. One of the sectors considered most vulnerable and therefore most in need of care and protection were the newborns. Concepción Alarcón points out that mothers were reluctant to take their children out for fear of getting sick or receiving the evil eye, and that when they did so, they were covered with amulets that were sewn into a sash or a silver chain tied around their waists. In this case, in addition to serving as amulets, they fulfilled a primordial use, on the one hand the biter would calm the growth of the teeth and on the other hand, rattles would also soothe and entertain with their sound.
