Peruvian religious of the Dominican order who was the first saint of America. After showing signs of intense spiritual precocity, at the age of twenty she took the habit of Dominican tertiary, and devoted her life to the care of the sick and children and to ascetic practices, soon spreading the fame of her sanctity.
