Kuyén has three phases: Kuyén Ulcha (maiden or new moon), Kuyén Ñuque (mother, or full, moon) and Kuyén Cushe (old or waning moon). Kuyén can control the lakes and oceans (created by the tears of the other wangulén), and sometimes she hides in them causing floods, but she is also the one who calms the destructive winds. In Mapuche mythology, kuyén is the moon.
